Photo Manipulate a Desert Landscape Into a Snowy Scene

In this tutorial, we will learn how to create a snowy landscape from a dry desert one using photo manipulation. We are going to learn the
process of creating depth of field using a few advanced tools. We are going to learn how to blend images so seamlessly that
it would look like a single image using the Brush tool, the mask tool and several adjustment layers. We will learn how to create light and darkness to make the background look seamless.

Step 1

Create a new file with a width of 4500 px and a height of 2750 px at 72 dpi (Dots per Inch). Background Contents should be White.

Step 2

First off, let’s open the desert sand in Photoshop. We will be using ground from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas and name it “Desert1″.

The result should be similar to this:


Now duplicate Desert1 image and move it to the right side and name it”Desert2″.

Now add vector mask from the bottom of layers palette .
Now activate Brush tool (B) with these settings :
Brush size: 400px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 40%
Flow: 100%
Color: #000000
Now paint over the highlighted area.

Step 3

Now we are going to Turn the sand into snow.
Now open the gradient map,Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (desert layer and gradient map) to make a mask.
When the Gradient Map box opens, input the following :

Now Create new Curves adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (desert layer and Curves) to make a mask:
When the Curves box opens, input the following:

Now Create new Color Balance adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (desert layer and Color Balance) to make a mask.
When the Color Balance box opens, input the following :

When the Color Balance box opens, input the following :

Step 4

Again bring Desert image in our canvas and name it “desert 3″
The result should be similar to this:

Now add vector mask from the bottom of layers palette .
Now activate Brush tool (B) with these settings :
Brush size: 400px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 40%
Flow: 100%
Color: #000000
Now paint over the highlighted area.

Now open the gradient map,Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (desert 3 layer and gradient map) to make a mask.

Now Create new Color Balance adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (desert 3 layer and Color Balance) to make a mask.

Step 5

Again work with desert image and name it “desert4″:


Now add vector mask from the bottom of layers palette .
Now activate Brush tool (B) with these settings :
Brush size: 400px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 40%
Flow: 100%
Color: #000000
Now paint over the highlighted area.

The result should be similar to this:

Repeat the same process which we have use erlier.

First off, let’s open matrija sky stock in Photoshop. We will be using the sky from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas and change it’s name to “Sky”.

First off, let’s open derry sunset stock in Photoshop. We will be using the sky from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas and change it’s name to “Sky1″ .

The result should be similar to this:

Now reduce opecity to 55%:

Now Create new hue/saturation adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .
When the hue/saturation box opens, input the following :

Now Create new Color Balance adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .
When the Color Balance box opens, input the following :

Step 9

Now let’s mearge our sky image with snow land.So activate a new layer and name it”Foog”.
Now activate Brush tool (b) with these settings Now let’s Paint:
Brush size: 400px.
Hardness: 0%.
Opacity: 40%
Flow: 100%:
Pick(#e6f4ff) as color for forground color.

Now paint over the highlighted area:

Step 10

First off, let’s open sand castle stock in Photoshop. We will be using the sand castle from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas and change it’s name to “castle”:

Now open the gradient map,When the Gradient Map box opens.Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (castle layer and Gradient Map) to make a mask. input the following:

Now Create new Curves adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (castle layer and Curves) to make a mask:

Now add vector mask from the bottom of layers palette .
Now activate Brush tool (B) with these settings :
Brush size: 400px

Now paint over the highlighted area.


Now erase the highlighted area.

Step 12

First off, let’s open sand stock in Photoshop. We will be using the stairs from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas:

Click the sand stock background and press p to activate pen tool and then make a selection around the stair and then click V to activate the Move Tool. Left-click the image and drag the image to the main canvas and change it’s layer name to “stair” .

Now Create new brightness/contrast adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (stair layer and brightness/contrast) to make a mask.

First off, let’s open sand sculptures 11 stock in Photoshop. We will be using the sculptures 2 from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas change it’s layer name to “Joker”:

Now by following all previous instruction make this sculptures looks like them aswell.

First off, let’s open tree stock in Photoshop. We will be using the tree from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas:

Now Create new Color Balance adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (Tree layer and Color Balance) to make a mask.

First off, let’s open skaters 3 stock in Photoshop. We will be using the girl from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas.
Click the skaters 3 and press p to activate pen tool and then make a selection around the girl and then click V to activate the Move Tool. Left-click the image and drag the image to the main canvas and change layer name to “Girl”.

Now Create new Curves adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (Girl layer and Curves) to make a mask:

Now Create new Photo filter adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (Girl layer and Photo filter) to make a mask:

Now Create new Curves adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (Girl layer and Curves) to make a mask:

Click the skaters 2 and press p to activate pen tool and then make a selection around the Boy and then click V to activate the Move Tool. Left-click the image and drag the image to the main canvas and change layer name to “Boy”.
Make same adjustments as we have done with girl layer.

Step 19

Now,let’s open the Snow Path 1 in Photoshop. We will be using the Snow path from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas.
Click the Snow Path 1 and press V to activate the Move Tool. Left-click the image and drag the image to the main canvas and change layer name to “Snow path”.

Now activate Free transform tool and then make a right click and select distrot and then resize it as shown below:

Now add vector mask from the bottom of layers palette .
Now activate Brush tool (B) with these settings :
Brush size: 400px
Hardness: 0%
Opacity: 40%
Flow: 100%
Color: #000000
Now paint over the highlighted area.

Now open the gradient map,When the Gradient Map box opens,Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (snow path layer and gradient map) to make a mask:

Step 20

Now let,s add shadows so first start with boy.Cntrl+click on boy layer to make it seletcted and fill it with #204c87 color and name it “Boy shadow”:

Next, activate the Transform tool (Ctrl/Cmd +T), then while the “Boy shadow” layer is selected and then resize it as shown below:

Now open Gaussian Blur and fill these settings:

The result should be similar to this:

Using the same technique as in Boy case, create a shadow for every other object.

Step 21

Now at last we will give some final touch to our image:

Now,let’s open Snowing texture in Photoshop. We will be using the Snowing texture from this stock image so we will need to transfer it to our main canvas.
Click the Snowing texture and press V to activate the Move Tool. Left-click the image and drag the image to the main canvas and change layer name to “Texture 1″.

Now Create new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer from the bottom of layers palette .Press Alt+left click in between 2 layer’s (Texture layer and Hue/Saturation) to make a mask.
